The creators of VeggieTales created another hit with kids (and parents) with 3…2…1…Penguins! This show on Qubo features twins Jason and Michelle and their crazy adventures with four funny penguins while staying with Grandma for the summer.

The kids are shrunk and pulled into the miniature ship with Captain Zidgel, Pilot Midgel , Scientist Fidgel and Kevin. On each of the missions with the Penguins the kids learn an important lesson, such as telling the truth, getting along with others, and other good character traits while helping various aliens of different worlds with their problems.

The characters are fun and the kids can relate to the sibling issues of Jason and Michelle as well as the issues the Penguins find themselves dealing with.

Qubo – more than just Kids’ TV

One of the things I love about Qubo is that it’s more than just shows for my kids to watch, either on tv, or on the internet. Qubo shows reinforce good values, like friendship, honesty and respect. It also reinforces the need to read, as many of the Qubo shows are based on children’s series. It’s great that the kids can expand on the adventure by picking up a book with these familiar characters in them.

So after exploring some of your kids’ favorite cartoons at the Qubo site, have a treasure hunt to see which of the books you can find to read together.

Qubo – Jane and the Dragon

If you haven’t seen Qubo’s Jane and the Dragon, you are missing a delightful show. Jane is supposed to be a lady-in-waiting, but she dreams of becoming a knight. Jane’s best friend is a dragon, which cause no end of problems, many of which are quite humorous.

The CGI illustration style is like an old fairy tale book come to life. My only complaint is that there aren’t nearly enough episodes, which can be watched at Qubo.com.

Qubo – Movie Making Made Easy

The kids and I watched some QuboPics earlier on the website, including some of the winners from last time. So of course we had to play with it. Our 4 yo son made his first movie, “13, Where are You?” (it’s not in the site archive yet). You can use a starter cartoon, or totally from scratch, and then they can add the rest of the story, with easy to use building tools.

I really think this is going to be a fun learning tool. It will help teach parts of speech, and how to organize a beginning, middle and end to the story.

Maybe next time Qubo airs some of the kids’ creations, one of our kids will have their movie selected.

Qubo to Feature More Young Animators in quboPics

Qubo has invited young people to make their own movie using the Zimmer Twins characters through quboPics. The newest batch of winners will be on the air July 16th, as well as at Qubo.com, after the voices have been added to the movies. Previous videos are on the site.

QuboPics features an interactive format that allows kids to mix and match animated clips. While they are having fun, they are also learning writing skills, such as parts of speech and sentence structure. I think I’ll have to play with this myself.
