So You Think You Can Dance aired it’s pre competition exhibition on Monday night @ 8pm on Fox. They created this special show to showcase the top 20 dancers and their talent before the actual competition begins.
The opening number was all 20 dancing together in a retro jazz club kind of number. Simply Amazing.
Hip Hop Dancers
Russell Ferguson, Kevin Hunte & Jonathan “Legacy” Perez: It was completely amazing that these guys just recently met each other. They look like they have been dancing together for years. There was a lot of break dancing and acrobatics, a very exciting performance!
Contemporary Dancers
Channing Cooke, Jakob Karr, Ariana Debose, Nathan Trasoras: They wanted us to open our hearts to their form of dance and after watching it, how could we not?? WOW!!! Unbelieveable performance. The choreographer really knew how to play to the dancers strengths. All the moves were timed to perfection and they really dramatized the song.
Tap Dancers
Peter Sabasino, Bianca Revels, Phillip Attmore: There has never been a tap dancer to make it to the finals of this show, these three are hoping to change that statistic. Sammy Davis Jr. they are not, however I have to say they did very well.
Jazz Dancers
Mollee Gray, Pauline Mata, Ellenore Scott: Introduction of the choreographer was sorta scary. She admitted that for her, teaching girls to be sexy is really hard because she is not sexy at all (quite the understatement). The outfits the girls were wearing were a little “funky” and the only trace of jazz I recognized was the jazz hands at the end. I am interested to see how the season progresses and seeing how contemporary jazz is interpreted.
Contemporary Dancers (II)
Victor Smalley, Noelle Marsh, Billy Bell, Kathryn McCormick: One of the judges explained that Contemporary Dance is rooted in Classical and commented that this dance performance was a work of art. I agree, I was amazed at how much partner work there was in this performance. For only having a week to learn the dance all four of them did amazing.
Latin/ Ballroom Dancers
Karen Hauer, Ryan & Ashleigh (Married Couple): These three could probably teach a step or two to some of the “pro” dancers on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. WoWEEEE!!! “Hot, Hot, Hot” was a comment from one of the judges. These three dancers had beautiful lines and were on point with every step. Very impressive.
I will have to admit that I have never watched this show before. Recently I have made it a point to expand my horizons and watch some shows that I have never seen. This one looks like it’ll be pretty good.
