Me

My name is Erika and I am a fairly new mommy blogger. I am an intern for the Mom’s Talk Network and I will be writing about Family TV Addicts- Children Programming.

I am a bit child-ish myself and fun-loving. I am a wife, mom, daughter, sister and great friend (I think). I live in the great state of Texas with my husband and our 2 year old son. We have a big screen TV (almost too large) and are all TV Addicts. I have always had an  addiction to TV since the early days of Sesame Street, but couldn’t stand Mr. Rogers, even as a child.

I thought this blog would be great to intern on because of my son’s TV watching. Of course whatever he is watching, I have to watch/listen to as well. So, I am kind of choosy about what he watches and how much.

I am also a preschool teacher and always on the lookout for entertaining shows as well as as educational ones. I do have many opinions about today’s programming- some of the shows I love and some I can’t stand.

What do you think about some of today’s shows? Do you think there is a huge difference with the shows that you grew up watching? Leave me a comment and let me know your thoughts.

Are there any programs/networks you would like to see me write about? Don’t be afraid to comment and speak up…I don’t bite – I promise.

As the infamous pig would say…..”That’s all Folks!” (I’ll be back soon)

  • Hi, Erika. Welcome to our internship! It's exciting to be going through this with so many talented women! I can't wait to read your posts.

I grew up with tv and like you, loved some shows and hated others. Some of them left great impressions on me as a child and I find that I lean toward those with my own kids. In our house, we love the educational shows for kids like The Magic School Bus, Little Einsteins, and Veggie Tales.

I am looking forward to getting to know you more through blogging and the internship!

Hey thanks for coming to visit!! I like that you guys have actually taken the time to categorize your shows. Is that what you get to do when you retire?? Love you Daddy!

Sylvia and I have been discussing TV shows. So far (not a closed list) we have come up with 5 types of shows -- (1.) Scripted (drama, soaps, action, & sit-coms), (2.) Reality (Big Brother, Survivor, Shaq's, American Idol, Dancing With The Stars), (3.) Sports (self-explanatory), (4.) Game-Shows (Jeopardy, Millionaire, Wheel), and (5.) News/Topical (Local and world news, 60 minutes, Dateline, Today, Good Morning America,). Not too sure about #5 -- could be another category there, I guess as daytime TV, like Ellen, Dr. Phil, Oprah.
We like scripted, sports, and news. Don't like reality, game shows and we divide on daytime shows. We like PBS, but only watch the shows you mentioned when grandkids are here! We usually get approval from their parents before letting them watch those.
  • Hi Erika! Nice to meet you. I don't watch to much TV as my kids hog it! My daughter is one and she loves Noggin as well as Finding Nemo. I am looking forward to see what you write about.
  • Eriak, So good to put a face to your name! My daughter's been stuck on Curious George since she started actually watching TV so I'm interested to hear what else is out there.
  • Thank you for the introduction & welcome! I am sure we will have lots to discuss over the next 10 weeks. I have 2 daughters ages 8 & 5 and we have "graduated" from PBS & Noggin to NICK & Disney channels. I don't let them watch every show on those channels but we are real tv addicts as well. Looking forward to your posts.

Welcome Erika! We don't watch much because of what the shows are trying to teach our children. Look forward to your posts on your recommendations for children's shows.
