flipping out

Jeff Lewis’ Valley Oak residence was the stage for Tuesday night’s “Flipping Out” season 3 reunion show, hosted by Andy Cohen.  Jeff  began this reunion show with much sarcasm, which I have come to understand takes place in order to cover his emotions.  He admitted that he didn’t want to do the reunion show but felt that he needed to in order to gain a 4th season from Bravo. He joked about needing a 4th season in order to finally alienate his remaining family & friends.

Andy brought up a lot of subjects while recapping this season.

  • What cocktail of medications is he currently taking? None & he has never been on any meds.
  • Is he single? No. He has been dating someone for just under a year.
  • Does he really ban people from going #2 in his house? He doesn’t “ban” it, but he really discourages it, he usually instigates a campaign of embarrassment for the individual who chooses to relieve himself in his house.
  • Why does every team lunch have to have a “sacrificial lamb“? Jeff really likes to tease relentlessly and usually chooses one person during the morning to single out at lunchtime. He sees no problem with it since the rest of the staff really enjoys the teasing episodes.

We were able to see a few “never before seen clips” from Flipping Out. In the first clip Jenni & Jeff were driving and Jeff drives straight into her driveway. Surprise!, it took him 10 months to figure it out but he finally put the pieces together. He teased Jenni with a famous line “it’s like the firm, you can never leave”.

The real highlight of this reunion show was the confrontation between Jeff Lewis & Ryan Brown. When they sat down together to talk, it was the first time in 4 months. These two have been the best of friends for 10 years (after briefly dating) and more recently, business partners. When the market turned south Ryan decided to focus more on his design business and Jeff decided to turn his business towards design also. Working from separate offices with separate sets of employees and being in the same field would certainly lead to some confusion, but the accusations that Jeff had of Ryan building a website and paying for the clients who were searching for Jeff Lewis Designs, to be redirected to Ryan’s Interior Design website seemed to be the main trigger for this feud.

I’m not so sure! When I look at these two and how upset they both are about this latest falling out (they both are on the verge of crying hysterically), I get the feeling there is something more behind it all. Jeff briefly touched on the fact that Ryan was in quite a monetary bind and has a child with a private school tuition, a partner that doesn’t work and an $11K mortgage. He stressed to Ryan that if he would just admit that as the truth, he could forgive him for being deceptive in order to gain more business.

I believe Jeff would forgive him. He would be disappointed in Ryan but he loves him so much that he would forgive him. He could understand the pressure Ryan was (/is) under being a parent and shouldering all of that responsibility. I really hope these two can work it out. I feel like Dale (Ryan’s partner) is a major catalyst behind the wedge that has come between Ryan & Jeff and it saddens me. That being said, I hope Bravo signs them all up for a season 4 so we can continue to see what will come to pass in ‘Lewis Land’. :)
