I am a techie person for sure. We have more gadgets then I have toes and fingers. One thing I could not live without is Windows Media Center. Yes, I have a computer hooked to my TV. Windows Media Center has so many features that I love.

Tuners

I currently have three turner cards in my Windows Media Center. I also have Direct TV and two set top boxes. So I am record shows from those two boxes plus digital antenna. Let me tell any TV lovers out there, this is a MUST. I can’t tell you how many nights I have three shows recording at the same time. I know what your thinking, that is nine shows a night. I know, I am an addict if you haven’t noticed.

Recording Features

Another thing I like is the recording feature. If I select a show to record and I am already recording three shows, Windows Media Center will search the guide to see if there is another time it will be on and select it to record for me. This is a really nice because most cable network shows tend to repeat at a different time. Also, when you select to record the series you can select to just record new episodes or all, if you are a re-run lover.

Guide

The TV is very similar to any other guide you may have. Not sure how far in advance some show, but Windows Media Center pulls at least two weeks worth. You can sort by categories and view just sports or children shows. It also gives you a brief description of the episode that is playing and when it was originally aired. So it’s easy to tell if the episode is a repeat.

Internet TV

Windows Media Center has a special internet TV feature. It shows movie clips for upcoming movies, hot music videos, news and sports updates. They even have short TV shows that are made exclusively for Windows Media Center. Get the latest updates on all gossip and new up and coming gadgets.

Other Features

Other cool features include streaming from Netflix, music library, sports scores, online media and more. Netflix is another favorite of mine. Just log in and see what you can play instantly. Great during the summer when lots of repeats are on. Online media features different channels often. Right now channels like XM Radio, Fox Sports, and HSN.

No matter what your addiction is to TV, Windows Media Center is a must have. You can hook up any computer with Windows Media Center to your computer. Check out some different models on New Egg. You won’t be disappointed.

The Hallmark Channel is a good wholesome channel for the entire family. Here are some shows coming up on the Hallmark Channel.

Fairfield Road

Noah McManus is leaving his job with the Boston mayor’s office for a dream gig in Washington, D.C. But in a single day, he finds out his new boss in Washington can no longer employ him and that his girlfriend has been cheating on him. Devastated, Noah travels to a quaint Cape Cod town and unexpectedly finds himself at home. Stars Jesse Metcalfe and Natalie Lisinska. Tune is September 11, 9/8C.

Martha Stewart

Martha has made the switch to the Hallmark Channel. Filmed in New York City with a live studio audience, “The Martha Stewart Show” informs and inspires viewers on subjects from cooking and entertaining to crafting and gardening. Host Martha Stewart chats with experts from all walks of life in this interactive format that celebrates Martha’s sense of fun and love of teaching. Tune in September 13th, 10/9C weekdays.

The Wish List

This movie has already premiered but it will be shown again September 16th, 9/8C. I have watched this movie and it’s a great family style movie. Total chic flick. Sarah Fisher, an overly organized, by-the-numbers kind of woman, makes a “wish list” of all the qualities and traits her future husband should have. After finding the perfect man, she falls for a guy who meets none of her criteria and discovers that life and love don’t always work out according to the master plan. Stars Jennifer Esposito and David Sutcliffe.

Currently Matthew is the star of the USA Network show, White Collar. I have been a fan of Matthew since I saw him in the short lived ABC show, Traveler.

Traveler

The series follows Jay Burchell and Tyler Fog, two graduate students who become suspects when the fictitious Drexler Museum in NY is bombed while they are pulling a juvenile prank. It appears that their friend and roommate, Will Traveler, has framed them for the bombing. Afterward, Traveler disappears and there is no evidence that he ever existed. Jay and Tyler flee from the authorities, who believe them to be domestic terrorists, and while on the run, they attempt to delve into Will Traveler’s past in hopes of discovering Will’s motives for turning on his friends and clearing their names. This show was ran from May to July 2007 and was cancelled after only 8 episodes. Below is a link to the first episode on you tube. You can catch the whole episode, in parts, there as well.

Covert Affairs is creeping up into my top five favorite shows. Catch it tomorrow night but first, if you missed last weeks catch it on Hulu.

Synopsis

Washington, D.C. wakes up to a city without Internet, cellular data or a communications infrastructure. DPD is tasked with finding out who is behind this widespread cyber attack when it’s learned that sensitive government servers may have been breached.

Joan asks Auggie to step out of the Langley office and become a field operative at a high profile “hacker” convention, where they believe an infamous Russian cyber-terrorist and anarchist, Natasha Petrovna, is attending. The only problem? Petrovna is also Auggie’s ex-girlfriend. Annie accompanies him to the convention to offer two million dollars for the safe return of sensitive government codes. After Natasha balks at the deal, Joan steps up the heat and makes Auggie give her the ultimate ultimatum: break with her morals or get thrown in prison. (pssst… you get to see Auggie shirtless… yummy)

At the same time, Annie is ordered to tell her sister to take down photos of her that her sister posted on a cooking blog. Danielle is insulted by the request, further driving a wedge between the two siblings’ very different lives.

The Food Network has become one of my new favorites networks. So many shows not enough time.

The Race

I live in a small town in the Midwest, so we don’t have food trucks in town. I hear they have excellent food though. So on the show The Great food Truck Race they take seven teams of three and travel the United States and compete to see who has the best food truck.

Host Tyler Florence instructs the teams to meet in particular US city. In each city, the teams will start with a limited budget, then they have the weekend to strategize and sell. The team that makes the bigger profit wins the challenge and moves on. The team with the smallest profit is the team that is sent home.

Truck Stops

There are some twits that Tyler throws at them called Truck Stops. So far I have only seen this happen once and in the middle of their challenge they were told they needed to cook with jalapeno. The person that made the best dish wins the truck stop. In this particular one, it was free pass to the next round.

I think this is such a great show. It goes to show that the little guys are just as popular as the big guys. Check out The Great Food Truck Race Sunday nights at 8pm EST on the Food Network.

So for this It’s Things I Love Thursday! I will talk about books that are TV shows.

Gossip Girl

This show is based on the book series, Gossip Girl, by CecilyVon Ziegesar. Started in 2002, the books and TV show follow a group of friends on the upper east side of New York. The novels runs much like a soap opera, except that the main characters are all rich and snobby chic 17-year-olds who want what they want and let nothing get in the way. The final and eleventh book was published in 2007. Following the series were 2 follow up books. In 2008, there was a follow up book series called Gossip Girl: Carlyles. Shortly after, in 2009, the series came to life on the CW and has been on ever since. The TV show isn’t as far along as the books so I hope it’s safe to say the show can be around for a couple more years. If you are not a book lover you can always buy the Gossip Girl previous seasons on DVD.

If you are a Gossip Girl fan I am sure you will love both the book and the TV series. Let me know which you like better.
