Follow The Stars Of iCarly On Twitter

March 10, 2010 by Katelyn · Comments

Are your kids fascinated by the smallest bit of trivia about their favorite television show? Does hearing that one of the stars of that show had their favorite cereal for breakfast make them so excited they can barely contain themselves?

If so, you can have them thinking you are just the coolest mom around by casually mentioning a few bits of the newest trivia while you are catching up on your morning news online. All you need to do to find out what is new with the stars of that beloved show is a Twitter account.

Yup. Stars tweet just like moms, dads and business people. And younger stars are a lot more likely to tweet about their personal details, like what CD they are listening to or what snack they’re gobbling down, than older stars. That means you will be able to casually drop the news that Emily Osment and Miley Cyrus are planning their 18th birthday party together or that Joe Jonas was embarrassed to find out that he was being photographed by paparazzi when he was grabbing a snack.

So how do you find the stars of your child’s favorite show so you can follow them on Twitter?

Sometimes, you can search for the stars’ names and will be lucky enough to find them tweeting under that name as a verified account. Other times, they aren’t so easy to find because a fan grabbed that name first. You have to do a bit of detective work to find them. Still other times, the stars just aren’t into tweeting and twittering through their days. To find out what is going on with them, you might need to find a writer, producer, or television show page that mentions them.

There’s also another way to find stars on Twitter. Just read this week’s series of posts on “The Stars of ___ on Twitter” and follow away.

Today, we’re going to follow the stars of iCarly. Ready?

  • We’ll start with Producer Dan Schneider, who tweets all kinds of cool details about the show. You can find him as @DanWarp.
  • The show itself is on @iCarly. I don’t actually follow the show, though.
  • I follow Miranda Cosgrove, who plays Carly on @MirandaBuzz
  • JennetteMccurdy, who plays Sam on @JennetteMccurdy
  • Nathan Kress, who plays Freddie on @BruinDude92
  • Noah Munck, who plays Gibby on @munckytown
  • Reed Alexander who plays Nevel on @reedalexander
  • Jerry Trainor, who plays Spencer on @JerryTrainor

Don’t forget to come back over the next few days to catch the rest of this four part series! (And don’t forget to let me know if there is another television show you’d really like to follow on twitter. I’ll do my best to dig up any of the stars who tweet!)

Want to See iCarly’s Gibby Wearing a Shirt?

March 5, 2010 by Katelyn · Comments

Did you know that Noah Munck is more than a shirtless wonder? That’s right. Besides playing the character of Gibby on iCarly, he appears as a lawn boy named Bobby Sinclair in a TruGreen commercial series. I thought it was really refreshing to see him with a shirt for once! (I personally don’t get the whole shirtless thing, but the gang just starts cracking up when Gibby comes running into the scene, rips off his shirt and creates pandemonium. So, I guess the writers are on to something.)

“They grow it, I mow it.” Snappy slogan, huh?

By the way, did you know that iCarly has a website with all kinds of fun video clips and quizzes on it? I was looking at it today and there’s a new video where the iCarly gang and Victoria Justice have problems with a drive thru guy. Maybe seeing that short video today will last us til the next new episode airs!

Victorious Is Coming to Nick

March 1, 2010 by Katelyn · Comments

Did you love Drake and Josh? Are you a big fan of iCarly? Then, you’ll want to watch a new tv show on Nick that airs on March 27th at 9 p.m. called Victorious. Of course, we’re going to be either recording the show or searching for it online, since 9 EST is past most of our bedtimes!

I thought the star of the show, Tori, looked familiar. Sure enough, she’s Victoria Justice from the iFight Shelby Marx iCarly episode! How cool is that? According to Dan Warp, you’ll see a few other familiar faces, too, including recent iCarly guest Leon Thomas, who appeared as Harper. In Victorious, he will play a character named André.

While he was talking about the great cast of his new show, Dan Warp had some more information to share that really made us happy. iCarly is not, repeat, not canceled. In fact, there are more new episodes already waiting to air and a bunch more on order. So, anyone who has heard the rumors that Victorious is replacing iCarly can take a deep breath and relax!

TV Show Idea

November 4, 2009 by Erika Silva · Comments

I’m watching The Biggest Loser, and it got me thinking.

One of the main concerns of people and programs is about kid’s obesity. The rate of childhood obesity is soaring. Schools and restaurants seem to be trying to get kids moving and making healthy food choices as well.

So….why don’t they make a Biggest Loser- kids edition?? They could tape it during the summer while kids are on break, and make it like a “health camp” style show. They could learn food preparation, get counseling and work out with trainers. Now, it may not have to be as grueling as the one for adults, but kids need the education to stop their un-healthy habits.

What do you think? Do you think there would be a better show to help get kids educated??

Discover the Fun

The Discovery network has always been a great learning resource. They also have a great kid-friendly website.

Discovery kids online has a  list of their shows, tv schedule, fun & games, and videos to watch. One of the more familiar shows is Bindi the Jungle Girl. Bindi Irwin is the daughter of the late animal adventurer Steve Irwin. She now has her own educational show teaching kids about animals.

Another show I wanted to spotlight was Trading Spaces Boys vs. Girls. Just like the adult version the kids have to work together to transform a room with the direction of an Interior Designer.

Discovery Kids has many animal-related educational shows. Some animated and some using real actors/people. They also have shows that are just for fun & enjoyment. Visit the website and let your kids watch shows and play some fun & educational games.

Feet will take you places!

October 27, 2009 by Erika Silva · Comments

“Franny’s Feet” This show can be seen on  the PBS Kids network. It is an animated show and only 11 min. long.  franny

The main character is a little 5 1/2 year old girl, named Franny who goes to work with her grandfather. Franny’s grandfather is a shoe repairman and is bought a new pair of shoes to repair each episode.

Whenever grandpa puts the customer’s shoes in the basket, Franny tries them on. When she puts her feet in the shoes she is magically taken on an adventure to someplace the shoes have been before. The origin of the shoes determines the location of her adventure. She may go to Jamaica, Alaska, Australia or other places around the globe. On her trip she learns about a new place, meets a new friend  and helps to solve a problem while she is there.

Franny is a very likeable cahracter, but I do feel bad that she just sits at her grandfather’s shop all day. AND….does Franny not know about Athlete’s Foot?? Why would she try on every single pair of shoes that come into the repair shop? Ewww Franny!! But in all seriousness this is a cute show, and not only for girls or shoe-lovers.

Good Wizard or Bad Wizard??

October 26, 2009 by Erika Silva · Comments

The Wizard of Oz is a classic. This year is the 70th anniversary for the movie. WOW, for 70 years this movie has been brought into people’s homes and has become a part of people’s childhoods.Wizard_of_Oz_70th_Anniversary_blu-ray_set

I remember when I was a little girl, that wicked witch scared me so bad every year when the movie came on tv. Still to this day she gives me the creeps. It’s hard for me to believe that this movie is also for children.

Dorothy and Toto, a tornado, the tin-man, the scarecrow, the lion, the witch, Flying Monkeys and the Wizard take you on a whirlwind trip through fantasy and dreaming. The characters all have a relation to Dorothy’s relatives, but are also developed with character traits. Each character that Dorothy meets helps her in some way while she is helping them. They work together to finally end up at the magical wizard’s door. Dorothy just wants to go home and is told she has had the power all along. The infamous Ruby Red Slippers are clicked together while she chants “There’s no place like home” and then wakes up back in her home. She and Toto are reunited with her family and she finds out the whole journey was just a dream.

So if your child won’t be scared of the creative costumes and cast, you should introduce them to a movie that will last through their lifetime.

All Aboard the Dinosaur Train

October 21, 2009 by Erika Silva · Comments

Have you seen this new show on PBS Kids? It is a great great show for any child that has an interest in Dinosaurs AND trains. The show, which debuted in September is from the Jim Henson company. dino-cast

The concept of the show is for kids to learn about all kinds of dinosaurs, as the main characters take a ride through different prehistoric periods. The intro song explains the story- a Pteranodon mother is in her nest with her 3 eggs, waiting for them to hatch. When they do, she realizes there is one more egg left, but doesn’t look like the rest. Out hatches a T-Rex baby and she adopts him anyway. In one of the episodes the mixed family travels on the train to try and find out what kind of species “Buddy” is. They figure out he is a T-Rex, but he loves his pteranadon mother and will not be leaving his family anytime soon.

My son, of course, is into trains and dinosaurs and this show is an absolute favorite.

The great thing about PBS shows is the enrichment activities located on the shows website. Go to PBS Kids to check out the games, printable pictures, facts and videos.

Caillou- Love him or Hate him?

October 20, 2009 by Erika Silva · Comments

My son absolutley LOVES Caillou, but apparently there are very few people that feel the same way. CA_CaillouExplo

Caillou is an animated cartoon about  little 4 year old boy. It is on PBS kids and has been on for about 8+ years. Caillou has a little sister, Rosie and a cat named Gilbert. His daily adventures usually include his friends at playschool or his family. He has many imaginative adventures and even some real life problem solving.Everyday he is growing and becoming more independent. I think it’s a cute relate-able show. Although I still wonder why Caillou is 4 years old, and still bald???

The main complaint I have heard from Anti-Caillou viewers is that he is “too whiny”. I really think that is just how his voice is. I love that my son loves Caillou. There are so few shows with a boy as the main character and I am completely ok with Caillou.

So now it’s your turn to say how you feel. It’s a black & white answer with this show- you either Love him or Hate him. We LOVE him……how about you? What do you love or hate about this little bald character.
