Do You Need Cable If You Have High Speed Internet?
I have high speed internet and I have cable television, but lately I’ve noticed something interesting. I want to catch up on a show I’ve missed. I’ve got it recorded on my digital recorder on the television in the other room. So, I should go in there and hit play, right?
First, I hop online and check the show’s website or Hulu and there it is. Whoopie! I can watch on my laptop. So I do. With a minimized window so I can keep working on whatever project I’m working on, I watch a show I could be watching on a big screen television.
This leads me to my question: Do you need cable if you have high speed internet?
Unless you’re watching HBO or another show that doesn’t let you see episodes online, I’m thinking the answer is no. Not really. Maybe you want basic cable for the news or so the kids can watch PBS on their television while you work on your laptop, but that’s about it.
I’m not canceling cable anytime soon, though. I have a package deal that is good for almost a year and it is nice to still curl up on the sofa with a bowl of popcorn for “family night” so we can laugh at the newest iCarly or Disney movie. I could do that with a DVD player and one of our favorite DVD’s, but, for some reason, it just isn’t as special to the kids.
What about you? Are you planning to cancel cable and just hop online for your television fix?
Introductions Are In Order
Hello gentle reader! (I’ve always wanted to say that. I love the way old book authors assumed all their readers were gentle.)
I’m Katelyn and I’ll be blogging here at Family TV Addicts during my internship. I spent many years writing in the evenings and spending my days working in the library field, but I decided three years ago to pursue writing and blogging full time when Lyme Disease made it tough for me to work outside the home. As I was recovering, I was blessed with three awesome kids and decided to continue working from home.
Now, you’re probably thinking I’m stuffy because I worked as a children’s librarian and branch manager. You might be assuming I feel like TV doesn’t hold a candle to a good book. I’ll let you in on a secret. Sometimes, the movie or made for TV version is better than a book or equally as good in a different way. For example, I love both versions of BLACK BEAUTY. Read more
The V’s Have Landed!
November 4, 2009 by Stacey de Wet · Comments
ABC’s new show “V” made it’s debut last night at 8pm. I was surprised that it wasn’t an exact remake of the original miniseries. For example the characters were all different. In the original the leader is Dianna in this one it’s Anna. I expected them to keep the same characters considering it’s a remake and not a spinoff. The premise was the same, but obviously the speed of the story line was revealed much quicker in this new series. Originally the miniseries was more like a movie and took time to reveal the plot. In this episode we met the aliens and were made aware of their reasons to be on Earth immediately. No messing around! They want to get onto the Alien versus Humans war.
First it is thought that the aliens have come in peace. Everyone is excited for their presence and are sure that this will be good for our world. However, Erica Evans, an FBI agent thinks differently. She starts investigating and meets underground with some rebels who inform her of the aliens real reason for being here. They show her a passport photo of a terrorist she remembers. Only she is now informed that not only is he a terrorist, but he is also a V (alien).
With their secret revealed the V’s claim that they have been visitors here for years and living amongst us. They have been responsible for unnecessary wars and conflict. These wars and conflicts were caused to try and weaken the humans so that they could take us over easier. The V’s inform us that we are now weak enough for them and they’re ready to take us on!
I liked the show, but just expected it to be more like the original. The special effects were obviously a thousand times better and so was the action. I’m just a little partial to the originally because it reminds me of when I was a kid! I will definitely continue to watch and see what the aliens do to us! I’m still bummed we only get four episodes though and then they’re taking a break until March. What did you think of “V”?
Be Careful Who You Sit Next To!

You never know, but the person sitting next to you in the doctors office could be an alien or a V from ABC’s new series “V” which premieres tonight a
t 8pm. The V’s as they are called look just like you an me. Look at the picture to your right. Would you ever think she was an alien if you saw her walking down the street? ”V” is a remake of NBC’s 1983 scifi miniseries. Unfortunately I was unable to preview the show for you, but I did find two other bloggers that were fortunate enough to watch it before it premiered. The reviews are mixed! Click on the links to read for yourself.
Hopefully, ABC can produce something good because there sure is a lot of hype about this show. They were even going to use a plane to write a large red V in the sky of 26 major cities across the nation tonight, but due to pollution complaints ABC pulled the plug on this promotional stunt.
Don’t forget to watch or set your DVR for 8pm tonight on ABC! Let me know what you think tomorrow!
Get Ready For The Aliens Arrival!
November 2, 2009 by Stacey de Wet · Comments
The aliens are arriving on ABC’s Tuesday night’s new premiere of “V” at 8pm. V was originally a miniseries in 1983, that ABC has remade for our viewing pleasure. The aliens claim to be coming in peace and bring hope to many people that they will be good for our society. A few however, including FBI agent Erica Evans, believe differently. She reveals a secret about the aliens or V’s as they are referred to that threaten the lives of everyone on Earth.
V will only be on for four episodes this fall and then return in the spring. I do not like it when networks do this, but there is obviously a method to their madness for getting their viewers hooked and then making them wait in agony for a new episode.
If you want to catch up on the old miniseries, V is being played on the SciFi channel all day today and tomorrow. Check your listings for the exact times.

If I could be famous I would be Phoebe from Friends .
If it’s Wednesday I am watching Way too many shows to list, but definitely Modern Family and Cougar Town.
Missing my favorite TV show is worse than getting a root canal done at the dentist.
When my favorite show ends in May for the season I cry hysterically and start a countdown until premieres start in September.
I was the most emotional when Family Ties ended because I grew up watching them and felt like I was part of their family.

Don’t Go Falling In Love!
October 29, 2009 by Stacey de Wet · Comments
Whatever you do don’t go falling in love when dating a Cougar! On Cougar
Town last night on ABC at 9:30 pm, Josh confessed to Jules that he had fallen in love with her. This coming after Jules made him promise that he would never do anything silly like that! How could he have broken the first rule when dating a Cougar, don’t fall in love! Well Jules had to do what she had to do. She couldn’t allow this loving relationship to continue so she broke up with him. Josh heartbroken, stood in the rain outside her window to try and win her back. It worked for the night, but the next day Jules did it again and this time it was final. She broke up with Josh and finalized their booty calls as officially over!
Josh was devastated but was consoled by another much older Cougar at the bar. I am sure he’ll have another snuggle buddy at least for the night!
Now that Jules has gotten rid of her boy toy I wonder what she’ll do next. Whose her next victim going to be? I guess I’ll just have to watch to see! You can catch up on old episodes at Hulu!
The Simpsons On Air For 20 Years!
October 28, 2009 by Stacey de Wet · Comments
It’s hard to believe that those wacky Simpsons have been on air for 20 years now. I still remember when they started and how so many people thought their humor and antics were to crude to be in a cartoon that kids could see. Well Someone must have liked them because they’ve been around for 20 years now. Not only that but in those 20 years they have won 24 Emmy
awards. That’s incredible for a cartoon! The Simpsons now have the honor of saying that they are the longest running comedy show in television history!
On January 14, 2010 They will celebrate their 20th anniversary with an all out Simpson style episode. Get your 3D glasses out because the show will be in 3D and on Ice! Don’t miss this episode on Fox! I know I’ll be tuning in!
In the meantime you can watch new episodes of the Simpsons starting November 15th on Fox at 8pm.
An Upbeat Brothers and Sisters!
October 27, 2009 by Stacey de Wet · Comments
Brothers and Sisters took a break from the sob fest episodes they have recently had. Finally, we were laughing and enjoying the Walker’s crazy parties and family fights. In this episode Sarah returns from France in time for Kitty to start her chemo treatments. To get Kitty’s mind off of the “C” word, Sarah tells her all about her French love affair with an artist named Luke. Instead of telling Kitty the real reason why she returned home, which was because she found out Kitty had cancer, she made up a lie and said she caught Luke cheating on her. Still Kitty enjoyed the story and decided France would be her first trip when she felt better.
The next morning a knock on Sarah’s door brought her French romance to California! Luke had followed Sarah back to California! With Sarah’s children returning home that afternoon, Sarah felt it was best for Luke to stay at her mother’s house. Luke made himself right at home and brought dance parties, swimming parties, and all the Walker’s to Nora’s house to sneak a peek at Sarah’s over the top attractive French beau! Nora wasn’t so thrilled about his presence at first, but overtime she too was enjoying the French visitor!
Next week’s episodes looks to be another fun episode with Tommy returning from his stint in Mexico. I still don’t understand why he was in Mexico so long, but hopefully we’ll get some answers when he returns! Plus, the French hunk is still around. It’s worth watching just to drool over him! If you missed the episode make sure you watch at least the pool party scene and you’ll understand my drooling comment!
