SterretijRadarAs most of you know, I am a blogging intern on Family TV Addicts. The internship runs for 10 weeks and after that Kelly will proudly boot us from the nest into the great big blogosphere. While I look forward to learning a lot more from Kelly and the Moms Talk Network I know that I will have to plan for the day when I fly away and build a nest of my own.

I have been thinking about the vision I would like to have for my own blog. I know that it will most certainly include updates and reviews on Reality TV however I would also like to include some of my other favorites like Dramas, Sitcoms & the occassional updates on Daytime TV. I would love to turn this blogging hobby into something of a profitable nature but time will tell.

My family and I travel to Costa Rica in the winter months so random posts about international travel, travelling with children, surfing, crafting with nature, etc. will most likely be included in my new blog. I have secured a domain name which will be moms-radar.com. I hope to have my blog up and running so when the time comes I can transfer over seamlessly.

So, what do you think? What would you like to see on this mom’s “radar”?

Does your neighborhood celebrate it? Do you go out and meet your neighbors?

Their website says it’s the 26th year for having this neighborhood “meet & greet”.  This event is supposed to benefit you, as a homeowner to meet your neighbors to start a “neighborhood watch”. Having your neighbors look out for you and your home is a great idea….I think. Some neighborhoods contact local police officers to come out, meet people and give tips on how to work with eachother.

I like that it makes me feel like it’s 50 or so years ago, when people were friendly and actually stopped to talk to eachother. I like meeting my neighbors and being able to call them by name. My husband sometimes calls me Mrs. Kravitz (from Betwitched) saying I’m a bit too familiar with their lives. :)

So go outside tonight. Take the kids, bring some munchies. Make it fun and get to know your neighbor. When the possible safety of your home can depend on it-it’s the right thing to do!

In the upcoming week there are two Reality Shows that I am really looking forward to. From the producers of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” the E! Network is bringing us a brand new show, “Leave It To Lamas” starring Lorenzo Lamas and his family. In one of the teasers for the show they tell us that Lorenzo & his son AJ haven’t spoken for 4 years, because Lorenzo thinks his son slept with his 4th wife. I’m sure we will see those two deal with their relationship this season. Series debut is on Sunday Oct. 11 @ 11pm.

Bravo is bringing back “Million Dollar Listing” for it’s 3rd season. This series follows three of the most successful, aggressive & young real estate agents in the L.A. area. I’m interested to see how they do in light of the recent downturn in the market. Season Premiere is on Monday Oct. 12 @ 11pm.

About.com has out a great list of their Top 10 Favorite shows for Preschoolers by Carey Bryson.

Their choices are right up my “alley” with shows that are fun & educational. Their choices are on the popular kids networks like PBS, Nick Jr. and Disney. Responsible programming with age appropriate educational shows, are easy for a parent to choose.

A quick run-down of the shows, the article has more info. Click here to go to the site to see the list.

  1. The Backyardigans (cute & imaginative)
  2. Between the Lions- (have never caught an episode- but heard good things)
  3. Dora the Explorer – (my son prefers Diego)
  4. Blue’s Clues- (not one of my favorites)
  5. Sesame Street- (all time classic show)
  6. Imagination Movers (again my son prefers animation over these guys)
  7. Super Why (I swear it has helped teach my son letters & sounds)
  8. The Little Einsteins (my son hasn’t really seen this one much)
  9. Sid the Science Kid ( really good science experiments & explanations)
  10. Pink Dinky Doo- ( I haven’t ever heard of this one….have you?)

Leave me a comment and let me know if you agree with the list, and if there are shows that your child loves that didn’t make their top 10 list. I know one I would add is Word World on PBS- it’s a GREAT one!!

There’s only one new show premiering this week and its kind of a watch at your own risk. CBS’s new Trauma Three Rivers starts this Sunday at 9 p.m. This is another hospital drama about doctors doing organ transplants. I am not sure how many more hospital dramas we need, but CBS feels we need at least one more. The reviews for the show aren’t good, but I’ll give it at least one shot and let you all know.

This is what else I’ll be watching this week!

Sunday: Three Rivers on CBS at 9 p.m. and Brothers and Sisters on ABC at 10 p.m.

Monday: Trauma NBC at 9 p.m.

Tuesday The Good Wife CBS 10 p.m.

Wednesday There’s so many options! I’m not sure what I’ll be in the mood for just yet. Here are my options on ABC at 8:30 is The Middle. Then at 9 p.m. you have Modern Family followed by Cougar Town at 9:30 p.m. Plus you also have Glee on Fox at 9 p.m. and Law and Order: SVU on NBC at 9 p.m. Wednesday’s used to be the blah nights of TV, but not anymore!

Thursday FlashForward at 8 p.m. on ABC

Friday/Saturday I use my Friday/Saturday nights to flip through the networks and catch up on replays of the weeks shows that I may have missed and didn’t have time to wath on the internet.

my cousin is a celebrityIt hasn’t been easy to find a lot of “Mommy” communities that focus on television watching or pop culture, let alone Reality TV. I feel as if I have been to the end of the internet & back again on my quest to find mom’s that are like me. Even my husband doesn’t understand why I like to watch the shows I watch on TV. I simply explain to him that “I like to watch the drama & heartache on TV, therefore I don’t have to invite it into my own life” :)

One of my greatest discoveries this week has been Mamapop. This is a site that is all about pop culture by parents, for parents.

All in all they have about 18 writers that contribute content at one time or another. The content is all about pop culture from celebrity gossip to show reviews to music/album reviews & everything in between. The various writers don’t hold back when it comes to their wide array of opinions and that is what I love about it.

You can tell that this site has a genuine love of pop culture and they aren’t afraid to show it. Check it out & tell me what you think.

cougCourtney Cox stars in ABC’s Cougar Town on Wednesday night!  Jules (Cox) recently divorced and mom to a teenage son, feels out of the loop when she doesn’t have a 20 somethings war story to share.  That’s because she was too busy raising her son whom she had at 22 while everyone else her age was living it up.

To make up for old times, Jules decides to have a 20’s weekend with her 20 something co-worker.  She lived through night one of the weekend, with many incriminating pictures to prove it.  Night two wasn’t so successful.  Her nasty hangover, sore leg from trying a “position” only younger girls can and should do, and hot flashes required her to take an early exit.

Although she didn’t make it through two nights of reliving her twenties, she still walked away finally with a war story to share.  She got kicked out of a bar, kissed a woman, and got into her first fist fight, which she won.  She also ate pancakes at 4 four in the morning.

Next week Jules reaches her mandatory tenth date with her young boy toy before they can, “get it on.”  Will her boy toy be as good as she thinks he will be?  Will he come back for date eleven?  I guess we’ll just have to watch to see.

jon gosselinWhew, twitter & the blogs are really busy today with the recent news of Jon being dropped from the popular show Jon & Kate plus 8. TLC announced this morning that in light of recent events with the family they would be changing the name of the show to “Kate +8″, Jon will still be seen on the show just not on a regular basis.

TLC wants to re-focus the show and feels that the viewers will be more interested in watching Kate & her life as a single mom. I personally like the idea. I am glad that they are going to put more focus on Kate instead of the kids. Now that the children are getting older, I think they might need a little more privacy. (If that is possible?) TLC plans to launch the newly re-focused show on November 2nd.

What do you think? Is TLC heading in the right direction for this family? I would love to read your comments.

traumaNBC’s hit new drama on Monday nights, Trauma, is definitely exciting.  This show is filled with action as a group of EMTs in San Francisco work hard to save their critical victims.  They must be careful because sometimes the trauma hits to close to home and puts their lives in danger!  Whether its an EMT helicopter crash or a gas tanker exploding where they are caring for their victims from a car crash, these EMTs see some serious action daily!

Not as good as NBC’s ER, but still a good second.  If you like to see lots of blood and action then this is the show for you!  At some points its was almost too much for my pregnant stomach, but I guess that’s what makes the show so real.

If you missed the show you can watch it here!

Ok, so everyone pretty much knows about Hulu right? The free website that you can watch TV shows on. Well at first I just used it for  shows that I missed- because I am the only person who doesn’t own a DVR or TIVO recorder.
