The Troop is a new show about kids in Highschool with a BIG secret. The new show just debuted on Sept. 18th. If your kids are older, they may really enjoy the action.

Everyone in school thinks Jake, Hayley, and Felix are normal, but that’s not really the case. The truth: they’re part of a secret global society known as The Troop. Their mission: to keep the world’s monster population under control. Can these three high school kids keep the town safe — and keep everyone else from finding out?”

Wedding Sundays on WE

September 30, 2009 by Traci Price · Comments

Women’s Entertainment Television (WE) gives us Wedding Sundays. All shows, all day have to do with weddings. For a country that has a Divorce rate of over 50% it amazes me that we invest so much time in watching reality shows about weddings. Wedding Gowns, Wedding Cakes, Wedding Receptions, Redneck Weddings, Platinum Weddings, Bridezillas, etc. You name it, if it has to do with weddings there is a “show” about it.

Personally, I am very happily married and my 8 yr wedding anniversary is in two weeks. Watching wedding shows is a double edge sword for me. You see, we eloped. It was my husband’s second marriage and my parents were concerned about how much money they were going to spend so I made it easy for them. No one came. Only me & DH, pastor, photographer (witness #1) & videographer (witness #2). At the time I felt that it was the best thing but when I watch shows like Platinum Weddings or David Tutera’s My Fair Wedding, I can’t help but to dream of what might have been. But then there’s the Flip side…. Bridezillas at least I didn’t turn into one of them. Read more

A Day without TV?

September 29, 2009 by Erika Silva · Comments

On About.com, blog writer, Carey Bryson wrote a post about Nickelodeon and their Worldwide Day of Play. Read below for all of the details.

Day of Play

All of Nickelodeon affiliated networks will be going off air for 3 hours to remind kids get off the couch. I think it is a great and responsible thing to do. I think other networks should fall into place, even though costs will be huge. It’s important to make sure kids know how to be healthy and keep moving. Go and check out the site to host your own “Day of Play” party!

Even Chicago is getting in on hosting their own event.

Reality TV History Recap

September 29, 2009 by Traci Price · Comments

Last week I did a 4 part series giving some little known facts on just how long the American public has been enamored with “Reality” shows in some form or fashion.

  1. Dating back to as early as the 1930’s with Candid Microphone
  2. Sweetening our days & nights with cooking shows that even pre-date Julia Child memory
  3. Showing off various talents across America
  4. The dedication of 2 full time channels to 24/7 Reality

I enjoyed researching those facts and learning a few things myself. I got to take a walk down my own Memory Lane reminiscing about the old shows that I loved & I hope you did too.

FlashForward Makes The Future Look Good!

September 29, 2009 by Stacey de Wet · Comments

flash-forward-tv-show-1FlashForward the new hit action/drama show on ABC’s Thursday night at 8pm is going to be around in the future.  The show starts out with a catastrophic event that affects every person in the world.  Everyone at the same time blacked out for two minutes and seventeen seconds.

During that time everyone had a flash forward look into their future for the day April 29th, 2010.  Those who didn’t have a vision can only assume one thing, they were dead on April 29th 2010. The remainder of the show was people corroborating about their visions and some hoping to change the future.

I am so excited about this show.  I have to admit that all the hype made me wonder if this show was actually going to be as good as ABC was trying to make it out to be.  However, I was pleasantly surprised and now plan on watching FlashForward in the future.

What would you do if you could see the future?

Basically, a look into the future scares the heck out of me.  I don’t want to know what’s happening before it happens.   Tell me what you think about having a flash forward of your future.

I Heart Brothers and Sisters!

September 29, 2009 by Stacey de Wet · Comments

brothers_and_sistersI can’t believe they make us wait a whole week until the next episode of Brothers and Sisters on ABC Sundays at 10 p.m.  I guess I made it 4 months from the season finale, but still a whole week seems like eternity!

The season premiere was filled with laughter, fighting, drinking, and drama just like every show is.  There isn’t a show that goes by without lots of drinking and public family fights.  I think that’s what I love about it!  It makes my family events look normal! Read more

Must See This Wednesday: The Middle

September 29, 2009 by Stacey de Wet · Comments

I was fortunate enough to be given an advance screening of the show, The Middle on ABC Wednesday nights at 8:30 p.m.

Finally, a family comedy that is funny, and you can watch it with your kids.

Patricia Heaton stars in the show as Frankie who is an unappreciated mother of three, wife, and car salesman.  Each of her children have their own unique personalities.  Axel the oldest, is well too good for just about anythithe-middleng including his family.  Then you have Sue who tries out for everything at school, but her two left feet and lack of any talent make it difficult for her to succeed.  Last but not least you have Brick.  Now the name pretty much says it all!  He is one or maybe two bricks shy from being normal!

The show is wrapped around how the family lives and survives in the middle of nowhere!

Or Illinois if you want to find it on a map!

Either way their family meals in front of the TV or the constant problems their kids cause Frankie and her husband, make this comedy a keeper for sure!

Make sure to watch this Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.

I promise it won’t disappoint you!  You’ll be smiling the whole time and giggling as well.

Kids Show Series: It All Adds Up

September 28, 2009 by Erika Silva · Comments

With breaking down the important categories of shows in the past week, it has helped me in choosing the best programs suitable for my son.

I prefer shows that are- educational, age appropriate, entertaining, and whatever style he prefers. I think we watch shows that actually have all 4 of  my important categories. My favorite are many of the PBS shows and the Leap Frog DVD’s.

There are so many shows to choose from and other qualities may matter most to you. Again know that a child can’t always make the best decision for themselves. You as the parent should be on hand to help choose the best to expose them to.

Reality TV: 24 Hours a Day

September 28, 2009 by Traci Price · Comments

While interning here on Moms Talk Network, I have been doing a lot of research on Reality TV.

I have been studying up on different points of view, old shows, new shows, etc. It seems that I have found my “New Favorite” reality show ….. “Husbands Of Hollywood” . Have you ever heard of it? Well, I hadn’t until I discovered my final bit of Reality Show trivia for this weeks series.

“Did You Know?”

Fox Reality Channelzone_reality_uk

Did you know that there are 2 channels devoted 24 hours a day 7 days a week to Reality TV shows? Fox Reality Channel is only found online @ Foxreality.com and Zone Reality UK which can be found online and on some Satellite networks in the UK.

Ok, so back to the “Husbands Of Hollywood”. This show stars 5 Hollywood couples who have done the unthinkable & SWITCHED ROLES, the women are bringing home the bacon and the men are keeping up with the children, the cooking, the cleaning, etc.

  1. Darryl M. Bell & Tempest Bledsoe ~ You may remember them as “Ron Johnson” from “A Different World” and “Vanessa Huxtable” from “The Cosby Show”. This couple is not married yet and they don’t have any children however they are living together and trying to work out the details of who does what while Tempestt is away filming a movie.
  2. Grant Reynolds & Jillian Reynolds ~ He is a former Marine and an aspiring actor. She has a very busy career as co-host of Good Day L.A., Weatherwoman for Fox NFL Sunday and she is currently starring in a Nutrisystem Infomercial. Together they have a 2 yr old daughter named Ruby. Grant stays at home with her all day while trying to fit in some “man time” on the motorcycle and go on auditions.
  3. Danny Barclay & Katherine Barclay ~ He is a former Medical Student at Duke University in NC where they met and eventually married. He dropped out of Medical School to persue his dream in acting. They moved to California where Katherine works as a high-powered attorney at a Hollywood law firm. They don’t have any children yet so Danny spends his time checking off the “to do” list that he receives from Katherine by email everyday and working on his new “Keg-erator”.
  4. Billy Ashley & Lisa Ashley ~ He is a former Pro Baseball Player for the LA Dodgers. That career was abruptly ended with an injury so he now takes care of his two “Pre-Teen” daughters. Lisa is a makeup artist to A list celebrities & developer of a new skin care line for teenagers. In addition to taking care of his daughters, Billy fields calls and keeps minutes of meetings for his wife’s skin care line.
  5. Charlie Mattera ~ Ex Con turned actor/screenwriter is married to a prominent psychologist (who must remain anonymous). They introduce us to his Best Friend Ryan O’Neal. Yes, THE Ryan O’Neal. This guy is definitely the most mysterious. His wife leaves him “Hello Kitty” to-do lists every morning. Watching him complete those lists and seeing how he deals with revealing his past to his in-laws will be very compelling.

I cannot wait to watch the rest of this series to see how these men deal with being “Mr. Mom”, but remember I’ll have to watch it online only @ www.foxreality.com.
